As we established in our last blog post, the San Diego community and all of the incredible restaurants it is home to are so integral to us here at New Leaf. Without their cooking oil, we couldn’t produce our biodiesel, and without their collaborative spirit, we couldn’t have grown our business to the place it is now! As many eateries have started to open back up for adjusted business, we’re sure people are missing their favorite meals and are *hungry* to get back to supporting their local spot. We asked two team members for their list of places not to miss.
Fogo de Chão *New Leaf Client!*
If you’ve never tried this Brazilian Steakhouse before, let us give you an idea of what to expect: tableside carving, decadent sides, delicious cocktails, and for those of you who aren’t in the mood for red meat — pescetarian and vegetarian dinner options as well!
Sabor *New Leaf Client!*
With locations in Encinitas and San Diego, this Brazilian Grill offers an extensive array of food that pay homage to the South American cuisine and bring in some more fusion-inspired offerings like burgers and acai bowls.
TJ Oyster Bar *New Leaf Client!*
Whether you’re an SD local or just stopping by, appreciating a good fish taco is a pretty mandatory activity for the area. Nowhere has perfected this dish like TJ Oyster Bar, a family business that has expanded to 3 locations to serve all the hungry people searching for their Baja flavors and innovative seafood dishes.
Brazil by the Bay *New Leaf Client!*
With a menu that blends the Brazilian classics with some American twists, make sure to leave room when you visit this scenic spot to leave room for dessert! They have 8 delectable options that share a sweeter side of Brazilian cuisine and shouldn’t be missed!
This sushi spot has been open in San Diego for 30 years, and when you stop by for a roll, you will understand why! Keeping the menu minimal and fairly traditional, this restaurant will serve you decades of experience in every dish!
If you’re looking for unique flavors and a standout dining experience, search no further. Fort Oak pairs elevated flavors with a built-out bar menu to serve something delicious for any diner.
If you’ve never tried Neapolitan pizza, you may not know what you’re missing … but let us tell you, there is nary a pie that can compare to the chewy, light crust of this classic Southern Italian iteration of everyone’s favorite meal. Buona Forchetta brings that Neapolitan touch to not only pizza but a more extensive Italian menu, leaving every eater in love.
Barbusa *New Leaf Client!*
Traversing from one Southern Italian city to another … all within San Diego! Barbusa shares the distinct flavors of Sicliy in a menu that offers pizza, pasta, and a considerable amount of shareable dishes. Try pairing your meal with their curated wine list, focusing on plenty of authentic Italian options.
Death by Tequila *New Leaf Client!*
If you don’t take their name too literally, this Mexican restaurant and tequila bar is nothing but a good time! Come for a sip of their cocktails or a full-fledged tequila flight, stay for the menu featuring plenty of taco, guacamole, and salsa options.
In non-Covid times, this Mediterranean and Latin fusion restaurant was an experience as dedicated to delicious flavors as it was to being a home for the arts, showcasing live music. However, the current situation still favors their just-the-right-level-of-indulgent eats, available for takeout.
